Martin Solem is a Norwegian designer based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Inspired by classic Danish design, Solem began working in 2005 for Rud. Rasmussen, one of the oldest Danish cabinetmakers.

In 2007, Solem applied to design schools and was accepted at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts where he graduated with a master’s degree in 2014. Solem’s achievements at the Academy led to projects with Capellini and Flos as well as exhibitions in Paris, London, Cologne, Stockholm and Oslo.

A full-time designer at HAY design studio in Copenhagen, Solem also continues working on various solo projects. In 2015, Solem received the Young Talent Award given by the Norwegian Design Council.

Solem describes his work: “I try to always be innovative, for me a product has to be realistic and useful to be considered a good design. What I look to do is combine these fundamental thoughts with innovative design.”
