Designer Spotlight
As the son of a furniture dealer with a preference for Danish design, Claus Breinholt grew up surrounded by classics from the hands of Hans Wegner and Arne Jacobsen. He began his studies in graphics, but soon discovered his true passion was designing furniture, where he was awarded a scholarship for his innovative approach to the design process from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. After founding his own studio in Copenhagen, Breinholt continues to push the boundaries of materials in all aspects of his work.
Claus Breinholt
Claus Breinholt was born in a small town in rural Western Denmark. As the son of a furniture dealer with a preference for classic Danish design, he grew up surrounded by furniture classics from the hands of Hans J. Wegner, Arne Jacobsen and Ole Wanscher.
Starting out studying Graphic Design, Breinholt soon found that his passion lay in designing furniture. During his second semester studying furniture design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Design in Copenhagen, he was awarded a scholarship for his innovative approach to the design process.
His insistence on pushing the boundaries of materials has resulted in his popular Loop Chair, which was the first one-piece shell in the world with armrests, made out of 3D veneer. The Loop Chair is produced by Italian company Infiniti. Claus Breinholt lives and works in Copenhagen, where he has his design studio.
