Designer Spotlight

Nathan Chintala’s craft is defined by clean geometry, balanced proportion, and an honest expression of materials, which is reflected in his solid walnut Marcel chair for Bernhardt Design. Born in India, then migrating to Queens, New York, the work he creates in his Brooklyn studio blends a rigorous, hands‑on approach to fabrication with a refined, architectural design sensibility.

Nathan Chintala

Nathan Chintala is a New York–based designer and fabricator whose work bridges furniture, lighting, and functional sculpture. Born in Telangana, India and later raised in Queens, New York, Chintala discovered his interest in furniture while studying computer science. A foundational woodworking course at Brooklyn Woods redirected his path, leading him to pursue the discipline with full commitment. After gaining experience in several furniture and millwork workshops, he opened his own studio in Brooklyn and developed his first collection, which debuted at ICFF in 2021.

Rooted in the traditions of early American cabinetmaking, Chintala’s work embraces bench‑made techniques, sustainable materials, and a deep respect for craft. Working across wood, metal, and stone, he creates pieces that balance structural clarity with everyday utility. His passion for making continues to drive his evolution as both a designer and a fabricator.
